Our philosophy

Why we celebrate the knots that aren't quite straight.

Factory macramé is precise because a machine has no breath. Hand-knotted macramé carries the tension of a Tuesday afternoon, the warmth of a body, the slow pull of a particular pair of hands.

We don't iron those things out. We sign them. Every Ketelier piece leaves the workshop signed and dated on the reverse — a small record of a particular afternoon in North Vietnam.

Every knot carries the weather of its making — the slight pull, the held breath, the moment of attention.

Where the cord meets the hand

Small workshops in North Vietnam.

A founder working with partner makers across a few small North Vietnam workshops. We don't publish individual names or portraits — the work is collective, the signature is on the reverse, and the privacy belongs to the makers.

How we work
001

Source

Cotton cord, measured and cut for each piece — the start of every knot.

002

Knot

Ten to fourteen days at the workshop. Cord measured by feel, tension chosen before the first knot.

003

Sign

Signed and dated on the reverse. Packed in unbleached paper. Sent.

Vietnamese hand-craft is pressed from two sides right now — cheap imports on one, a younger generation leaving for factory work on the other. Ketelier is a small partnership inside that bigger story, committed to fair compensation.
